London-based music mogul Marie Dahlstrøm has linked with her flatmates, producer Dan Diggas and rapper Aligo, to bring us her latest work entitled “4inARow.” With both a shared passion for music and a shared living space during the pandemic, Dahlstrøm, Diggas, and Aligo dedicated four hours a day to write, record, and produce a song in its entirety, four days in a row. The resulting four-track release “4inARow” effortlessly illustrates distinct stages in the cycle of a relationship, coming together to tell a cohesive narrative in just four songs. Their concept of four songs in four stages further extends to the trio’s cover art, collaborating further with artist Samuel Caleb Jimenez to pair each song and stage with an illustration to match.

Dahlstrøm’s mesmerizing melodies weave effortlessly in and out of Aligo’s carefully curated lyrics and steady flow on each track. Framed by Diggas’s smooth R&B meets lo-fi production, “4inARow” exemplifies the beauty of cohesive collaboration. The project begins with “Sparks,” a stripped down, slow-burning track highlighting the excitement of a new relationship. The two middle tracks, “Rising” and “Fall Down” work as a pair, picking up the pace and taking listeners through the inevitable rise and fall of any new love. The final track “Growth” offers a reflection, as rapper Aligo almost whispers his verses, creating a sense of intimacy and articulating an acceptance of change throughout. Dahlstrøm closes out the track with an aetherial outro, as she further reflects on themes of acceptance and truth.

4inARow” is a masterful example of collaboration, allowing Dahlstrøm, Diggas, and Aligo to align their individual skills and strengths to create a truly innovative project in only four sessions.
