If you haven’t been keeping up with Adanna Duru now is your chance to get acquainted! Adanna is a California-raised Nigerian artist bringing us a beautifully refreshing sound molded by R&B and afrobeat styles, with a hint of pop. She’s reached an extensive audience through her TikTok channel where she showcases her witty, hilarious, and genuine self. Beyond her social media presence, she’s been working tirelessly at curating an exemplary collection of tracks, given to us as her debut EP “Nappy Hour”.

I can’t think of a better time to be releasing this project than international women's month, this music is a celebration of black excellence and femininity. “Nappy Hour” speaks to everything that Adanna is herself, her textured hair, dark skin, and natural beauty are all embodied in this music. Adanna covers a variety of topics in these lyrics but each song radiates her confidence, grace, and power.

Delving into the music let’s start by highlighting the tracks with a distinct R&B influence. Listening to “Boogie”, “Babies”, and my personal favorite “Stay In”, you’ll hear a slower sultry sound. There is a certain aura surrounding these tracks, they have gentle melodies, soft tones, and smooth vocals reminiscent of classic R&B hits. Leaning into her love for afrobeats we hear “POP” and “Write On Me” laced with production showcasing the genres defining instrumentals and pace.

The vibes are top-tier all around this project, there’s something for every occasion. Upbeat danceable hits for a summer day or late night. Slow and gentle energy for a night in or a long drive. Adanna has checked every box with her versatility, genuine talent, and passion for music. I can’t recommend this EP enough, truly a stellar piece of work, especially as a debut.
