Music is a reflection of you, your emotions, and your daily life encounters, music brings us all together to listen to what we know and love. When creating music the artist can open a new connection with their audience, and Edinburgh DJ CAMY has unleashed his biggest release to date. The tenured DJ released his dual single release “Spook” and “Can’t You See” in January 2023 starting off with a bang. With both songs having sonically different qualities, you can tell CAMY has expanded into a new level or artistry outside of his DJing.

CAMY, “Spook”

“Spook” the leading track in his dual single release Can’t You See, showcases the listener to a melodic Electronica track. After discussing with CAMY about “Spook” and how the song melded together to the emotional Electronica track it is he said, “It was born out of the feelings around optimism and reflection around that time of year with atmospheric and melancholic soundscapes.” From his previous release How Many Times, I love the big step CAMY took to try something different and create more of an experience for his listeners. There is no easy way to describe “Spook” ; you have to group the song into a category of moods/feelings/things like: “My life is a movie”, “Feel-Good”, “Spaced out”, or “Late night drives.” As you keep listening, I love how CAMY continues to introduce new synthesizer elements or catchy drums back into the track to engage the listener. Personally, my favorite out of the two, but you need to listen to both to understand the full experience. “Spook” has a lot of similarities to artist Ark Patrol and their song “The Betrayal of Lyla” - a rollercoaster of emotions while introducing new instrumental elements of the song to evoke a story. Would love to see more Electronica music from CAMY in the future. This would be a nice addition to his existing house tracks and provide an eclectic set to his DJing.

CAMY, “Can’t See You”

The self-titled track ‘Can’t You See” steps away from Electronica and CAMY returns back to his house roots. Immediately you are hooked in by intense four on the floor drums and a catchy vocal sample inviting the listener to dance. You can really hear the similar emotions that are reflected with “Spooky”: optimism and reflection. In this song, CAMY provides two sonically different sections in this track from heavy synthesizers and vocal samples to a high pass filter drum and bass section. This track reminds me of summer night raves with your friends through the song's vibe and strong house dance elements.

If you haven’t already, you need to put CAMY on your rising star radar. It is exciting to see his DJing journey align with a new musical journey with “Spook” and “Can’t You See” tee off his music releases in 2023. From his previous work with other DJ’s around Glasgow, opening for acts such as DMX Krew, Earl Jeffers, Mafalda, and his charitable work, it is exciting to see all of his work line up to his success of starting his own label @backroad.records. Stay in the loop for upcoming gigs and music for CAMY on his social media. With BBC Music putting the young DJ on notice it is time you do too!
