Produced by the band themselves, Salt Lake City natives Cinders comes in with an impeccable indie sound to their newest track, “Afternoon.” This is the second single released from their upcoming album, No One’s Home. This trio is incredibly talented and “Afternoon” clearly depicts why. Inspired by bands like Twenty One Pilots and The Front Bottoms, they define indie in their own way.

When Cinders vocalist, Montana Smith, gracefully sings their pre-chorus, “There’s an anchor between the carpet and couch/It’s pulling me down/I lost this fight again,” it allows you to envision and feel the defeat experienced in a relationship, whether it be romantic, platonic or familial. But as the track progresses, it is the resiliency that is portrayed that simply makes you smile and resonate with the track. The instruments complement one another in the most beautiful way throughout the song and creates a one one-of-a-kind melody.
If you’re into a fun indie sound, “Afternoon” and Cinders is made for you. Stay tuned for their upcoming album release show “No One’s Home,” which takes place at The Complex on August 28.
