DCG Brothers and Heavy Steppers Heat Up the Summer

The DCG Brothers linked up with the Heavy Steppers last week for one of the most exciting underground collaborations so far this year. It was destiny that Chicago’s two hottest rap duos would come together for a mid-summer banger. The Heavy Steppers are composed of SBG Kemo and Ke Millie. This duo is responsible for the Summer ‘19 smash “Heavy Steppers. DCG Bsavv and DCG Shun make up the DCG Brothers and they burst into the industry in the Winter. With an unlikely beat choice, Coffee Shop by Young Joc, “Forever Nitty” heated up their city in mid-December. After an overwhelmingly positive reception of their first song, the brothers erupted with a series of high energy singles. In May, the DCG Brothers dropped a standout record in “OK.” The song is rapidly gaining traction in the Midwest. With “OK” ringing out in Chicago right now, it was only right that DCG came together with the Steppers for the remix.

With four fierce spitters on the track, the “Ok” remix is laden with jocular punchlines and ornate wordplay. From banana boats to dice games to scams to the benefits of xanax as opposed to percocets, they discuss a variety of topics. These four emcees are really the backbone of the young rising tide of lyrical Chicago artists. One of the realest bars in the song is when DCG Shun spits “Ok I can’t wait to get back on the road, due to corona we can’t do no shows.” This is a super accurate line that really says a lot about the life of an up and coming artist at the moment. The DCG Brothers are progressing quickly right now and an act of their size would normally be doing club appearances and small shows. Ever since “Heavy Steppers” dropped Kemo and Millie performed at dozens of shows. Hopefully we find a vaccine soon because once clubs reopen, the “Ok” remix is going to be on every Chicago DJ’s playlist.

It’s important to note that the “Ok” remix is powered behind a really strong team. The song is produced by Spank, a key Chicago figure. Spank had a hand in Lud Foe’s “No Hooks II” as he produced the intro, “Water.” The record and music video is presented by NoMoreHeroes. NoMoreHeroes is a storied Chicago hip hop company owned by Laka of Lakafilms. NoMoreHeroes enlisted Josh Jones to direct the video. He’s another Chicago resident. Everyone on the team is Chicago bred and that’s why everything about this song feels so Chicago.
