If you are looking for new bass-heavy tropical house music, look no further because Deekapz has exactly what you covet. Based in São Paulo, friends Matheus Henrique Santos and Paulo Vitor make up the production duo known as Deekapz. The duo received recognition for their clean sound and progressive rhythms, but what really differentiated them from the pack was their incorporation of Brazilian influences. Their original sound caught the attention of global audiences, bringing them to a 2017 Soulection White Label release, the collective responsible for releases from producers like Sango, Monte Booker, Hablot Brown, Elujay, and more.

The two recently released singles “topspin” and “throwback” which provide unmatched house vibes and impeccable base. “throwback” begins with soft strings, eventually building up into a symphony of future synths and tropical percussion for a very KAYTRANADA-like sound. Alternatively, “topspin” offers a more dance heavy, club-like sound with a dramatic transition into a masterpiece of bass and brass. “topspin” has an addictive saxophone melody that will seriously keep you playing on repeat. The track switches to another bass-backed melody around the 1:30 mark, that concludes with a jazzy piano arrangement. These two singles excellently communicate the versatility of the group from a chill, laid back track, to an upbeat, dance banger.
Deekapz cites influence from artists like Prince, Paul McCartney, and Idris Muhammad, to Soulja Boy, the Ying Yang Twins, and 2Pac. The two have also produced for artists like Sango, Tropkillaz, and Baco Exu do Blues, and their collaboration with Tropkillaz “Don’t Give Up” was featured in Michaela Coel’s new HBO series, I May Destroy You. The duo plans on releasing more music in the years to come, as well as more collaborations and tours on a global scale. House fans be sure to keep Deekapz in your sights for new music in 2021.
