Kevin Powers "Walked In" To The Rap Game

Kevin Powers is an 18-year-old artist based out of Raleigh, North Carolina but born in Boston, Massachusetts. A singer songwriter, Powers fuses bright melodic tones and catchy instrumentals to put his versatility on display for listeners.

The Raleigh rapper released “Walked In” on November 6th and has quickly become his most streamed song. Powers’ released his first ever music video in support of the record; it couldn't have come at a better time as the track is really starting to pop off on Youtube. 

“Walked In” is a perfect soundtrack for a fun night out with friends or a day that you are just feeling yourself. Fueled by the chorus, Powers talks about “looking like a whole damn lick” which is usually put in a negative context, Powers flips the connotation and uses it to gas himself up. I could not resist the head bob to the short but spicy track. 

After listening to Powers’ “Walked In” I wanted to see what else he had to offer; I did not expect what I found next.

The Boston born artist gives listeners a look into his complicated love life with “How You Been?” This is a song filled with soft pockets of whimsical synths that are paired with progressive hi-hats. Powers crafts the song with vulnerable lyrics about using alcohol to cope with his personal challenges. He details his loneliness and the pain of falling into a broken relationship poisoned by insecurity and broken promises. 

Powers has a lot of versatility and strong melodic tones. Keep an eye out for Kevin Powers; he’s a star in the making and due for a big 2021.
