“FIGHT BACK!” sits atop Atlanta-based Soundcloud user IX’s profile page with a crude drawing of two shouting faces over a man, presumably IX himself, sunk deep into his sofa-chaise with a blunt in hand. The image feels as though it should be a cover for a raucous, trappy banger laced with adlibs and loud 808s. Instead, the track, released less than a week ago, sounds more akin to the sounds of Juice WRLD (specifically, “Come and Go” off of his most recent LP) or a post-2019 Machine Gun Kelly with clear pop-punk and emo-twang influences. In his header image, IX is flanked by deceased rappers XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD. Both artists had a clear affinity for the “emo” influences of the early and mid-2000s, something that is not lost on “FIGHT BACK!”. There’s more guitar than hi-hats on the track as IX sings, croons, and pseudo-raps over electric chords.

“Can’t you say that I don’t wanna fight back?” he muses in the chorus, asking for a reprieve from his current romantic troubles. The song laments a lost and complicated love that’s proving more trouble than it's worth. The description of “FIGHT BACK!” reads, “Love, Passion, regret. all the things a simple human goes thru in life. I'm here to let everyone know that I understand. There's love out there for anyone. You just got to pick the right one for you.” Despite the song’s melancholic themes, the artist assures us that he’s here for his listener. He offers a shoulder to lean on for the lost listeners.

IX’s Soundcloud bio reads “I just wanna make music and stuff so enjoy I guess lol.” The only song on his profile as of now is “FIGHT BACK!,” but with a song as catchy as this, it’s no doubt that we’ll be enjoying any new releases rolling out.

Love, Passion, regret. all the things a simple human goes thru in life. I'm here to let everyone know that I understand. There's love out there for anyone. You just got to pick the right one for you.
