When we think about modern pop sound, artists such as Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran and Halsey are the first that come to mind. As the sound of music is always shifting, much of today’s music consists of influences by past artists who had big hits on major platforms. Marcos G, an R&B artist originally from Florida has been someone who I’ve felt fits the criteria for shifting the modern-day sound.

Being first introduced to Marcos’ music in mid-2019, Marcos G’s R&B sound has such a dynamic range throughout his discography. Tracks such as “Dancefloor” and “Stay” have a groovy/pop-funk based sound, similar to well - respected artist Khalid on his debut album “American Teen”. “Darkside” a track featuring Marcos G focuses on a blend of hip hop with soulful vocal hooks, similar to recent Ed Sheeran tracks. Most notably, Marcos released his first song of 2020 called “Hoodie”. A nostalgic alternative/R&B tune displaying his vocal capabilities and love for guitar riffs.

So what’s the verdict, why is Marcos G so special? Well, let’s first point out that production and artist vision is very well established in his music. Listeners can notice that his music is always consistently changing, while the production in his music is very proper. Secondly, we have to take into consideration that Marcos G is way out of the league to where is fanbase stands. Only consisting of around 8000 followers on all major social media sites and platforms, his talent is well beyond the numbers that represent his music. Lastly, Marcos G only has 8 songs out on streaming platforms, and imagine what the variety of music available on his debut EP or album.

As of now, Marcos G has provided new music for his fans with the most recent release of “Hoodie” and I’m excited to see whether 2020 will be the year for a debut album or a versatile EP.
