From being an avid dancer to transitioning into the music scene, Vietnamese - Chinese Canadian Nilo Blues has been an artist in the Toronto area that has always brought positive vibes and good morale. In late January, Blues dropped his first single “No Risk Involved”, a song influenced off of breaking gender/racial barriers evident in the plot of the music video, a collaboration with talented director Angelicamilash.

Most recently, Nilo Blues continued to display his musical talent with a cover of Brockhampton’s “SUGAR” on his Instagram. The video features talented artist Jesse Gold on the acoustic guitar (another local artist on our radar) with Nilo on the mic singing directly to his fans. I personally love the cover, being a fan of Brockhampton as well and I believe Nilo killed Dom Mclennon, Kevin Abstract, and Ryan Beatty’s part’s on the track. I was quite honestly very impressed when he sang the hook to Sugar, his tone and vocals seemed to be as good or possibly even better than Ryan Beatty’s part especially since there was no autotune.

The cover was definitely great exposure for Nilo Blues. Although we got a short glimpse of Blues’ creativity and lyrical flows on “No Risk Involved”, the cover really showed us that he has the vocal capabilities and versatility as an artist. By the way, big shout out to Franco Junior on filming the visuals for the cover.

I’m really excited to hear Nilo’s new music for 2020 and would not be surprised if Nilo shocks his listeners with the work he’s put together.
