Numl6ck’s “anxious,” produced by victrxw, is a spritely, retro-future bop musing on the repetitive thoughts of its titular affliction. The song, quite literally, beeps and boops with glitchy whistles over a loop that can only be described as “vibey as hell.” The hyper-pop song borders on trappy as snappy drums sit underneath the artist’s autotuned voice. He quickly laments over synths and keys that bounce along throughout “anxious.” Numl6ck ventures into the stress and anger that comes with overthinking everything, particularly when the source of stress is another person.

He squeezes in a bar about running up on someone and popping them with a pistol moments after mumbling, “I ain’t playing like Nintendo,” crossing nostalgia with swag ala South Florida rapper Ski Mask the Slump God. Sonically, the track calls to mind an Animal Crossing soundtrack, only emphasis the cheeky gaming references that are peppered throughout.

“Woah, woah, I don’t fucking need you,” he declares, giving an effective fuck you to a presumed lost lover. Numl6ck’s voice borders on soothing as he floats over chorus, explaining how “this shit is tearing me up,” in a drowsy, buzzy tone. Squeezed into only a brief minute and forty seconds, “anxious” reaches its end before the listener knows it, leaving them to explore the rest of numl6ck’s small yet fiery collection of releases. As he sings, “I’ma make it either way,” the listener can’t help but believe him.
