Philip DIOX’s “On the Run (dioxazine)” appeared to me in the way many songs try but ultimately fail to garner an audience–the Tik Tok For You Page. The fiery, few second snippet snagged my attention effectively, and now, following its release, the track lives up to the hype. DIOX brings an Alex Turner-ism to a beach-rock guitar reminiscent of California surf rockers Wavves. “On the Run” is DIOX’s first release in anticipation of his debut LP, The Double Dealing DIOX

There’s hints of Jet’s “Are You Gonna be my Girl” in the quippy song, featuring the Cincinnati-based rocker musing on quick fix hook-ups with lines like, “I gotta feeling this might be a bad move/But I couldn’t say no to you.” DIOX offers a fun escape from reality on this jammy single, departing from the softer, crooning sounds of his previous releases. “On the Run” tastefully meshes West Coast instrumentals–and sentimentalities–with DIOX’s staticky, traditional alt-indie coated vocals. It’s a windows-down, speakers up kind of vibe that’s ripe for soundtracking your summer vibes.
