Relax to the Fifth Episode of the “Secret Ambient Friends Gig”

We all know all too well that life today can pull a fast one on us, sometimes leaving us in the dust. Whether it’s meeting a deadline, waking up early to catch up on one we missed, getting in the gym to work off that box of donuts we probably shouldn’t have eaten, or even missing that last bus home. We’ve all been there. At times like these, sometimes we can lose our head, lose motivation, and throw the towel in cursing at the world. In these moments of despair, we might not realise but just what we need is time to breathe and to get our bearings back in order. Here is where the latest project from Tomasz Bednarczyk, aka New Rome, can help us out.

It has been released as a separate follow-up installment after the 2020 Secret Ambient Friends Gig – a beautiful landscape of sound full of rich, deep waves all while maintaining clarity and lightness. Although one should experience the whole piece, I would recommend “Episode Three: Catnap” to get a taste of that project if you’re pressed for time or in need of some rapid relaxation.

In this work, “Episode Five: Calm,” the Polish artist creates a soundscape full of tranquility but also movement and life. Through the slow motions, it almost feels like listening to nature growing before my ears. I imagine this is what it would sound like walking into a forest alone for the first time if plants sang like birds.

Perfect for listening while working, walking, or just lying back relaxing, this work accomplishes what it sets out to create – calm. The composition feels balanced and lacking nothing, anything more and it would lose what it was designed to achieve. Reminiscent of the Japanese New-Age ambient works of the 80s that were designed to enhance the experience in nature, this piece feels timeless and not bound to a period. If you’re used to music with the more classic four-chord format, I urge you to take time to get a taste of what this music can do.
