We all know that Chicago is full of amazing artists, culture, and a meld of musical genius. So, it’s my pleasure to bring SMBA to your attention out of the goldmine for underground talents. While the artist is originally from Michigan, they’ve made a deep connection with the Chicago music scene now residing there for the past few years. A bulk of their musical journey and development has taken place in the city and provided major influence to their sound.

Getting into the music, let's talk about their latest release, “XO,” accompanied by featuring artists WASTEDJU and Lucas Lex. This track is full of energy. The production is spacey and reminiscent of something you’d hear in a video game soundtrack. A meld of electronic elements and distorted synths, the beat is authentic to SMBA’s style.

Over this track, you’ll hear a song fit for the rage. It would make for an excellent performance live! To start, SMBA’s voice is raw and distorted. Their flow is steady as if they’re telling us a story. Gradually we get into a quicker paced, higher energy piece of the song with the featured artists bringing everything full circle. The essence of this track's story is SMBA’s experience of “anger” in stages of grief after a break-up.

SMBA’s music is not to be defined by one single track; their catalog is extensive and diverse, bringing us beautiful harmonies and dreamy melodies on some singles then transitioning to the raw alternative hip-hop sound that they manage so well. As they continue to grow and establish themselves within the music space, find your favorites and follow along on SMBA’s journey!
