Zenesoul’s “Crown” Will Not Be Fazed

Toronto-based Juno-nominated R&B/soul artist Zenesoul is not one to be manipulated.

“Crown” begins with a gruff guitar juxtaposed with light keys. As the drums introduce the rest of the recipe, we welcome the lavish entrance of Zenesoul’s breezy voice. She knows exactly who she is, how she should be treated and no one can take that power away from her. She will not be fooled by those fixing to take her thunder, nor will she entertain those bringing their worst selves to the table.

The way she sings “leave” accompanied by her own vocals into the night of the track, is reflective of the way she’s had to keep her own crown upright. Nobody has even appeared close to knocking it off, and there’s no chance that this day will come.

In the background of the track, a weightless strum of the harp escorts the determined singer through her daily affirmation, ending on a muted rotation of synths.
