2219 Lee Is Heating Up The Summer With “Hakeem”

NYC rap stars 2219 Lee, Mali Smith, and Cash Cobain have been setting the city ablaze with their fire single “Hakeem,” produced by the self-proclaimed sample God Cash Cobain. It's a high-energy bop, and all three rappers body their verses respectively with 2219 Lee setting the tone early on in the track. He blesses us with not only an EXTREMELY catchy hook but a solid first verse that definitely sets the scene from what to expect for the remainder of the song. His delivery is strong and aggressive, but he floats over the bass-heavy Cash Cobain produced beat seamlessly, with many notable bars such as “She knows I'm top 3 but I'm not top 2 and I'm def not THREE.” The beat itself is a gem of its own as well, due to Cash Cobain’s amazingly unique knack of creating NY drill beats that aren't reminiscent of anything the city has heard before; he uses rare samples and complex drum patterns that make you get up and MOVE! Definitely, one of the best beats to drop from the city this year by far. The hook by 2219 Lee “We get high in the jet NO SKY” is simple but delivered in such a way that it WILL get stuck in your head immediately. You have been warned!

Mali Smith and Cash Cobain grace the second and third verse respectively, both adding their own personal flavors and fly punchlines. Mali’s verse is well executed and delivered with a calm, cool, and collected feel. However, he manages to walk on the beat with a swag that can't be replicated, along with Cash Cobain who is known for his notable punchlines and metaphors, a fan favorite being “Cash Cobain no play, my bish look bad like COI LERAY” a bar that is definitely bound to get stuck in your head due to how he delivers it on the track! It's a hilarious and memorable way to start off your voice for sure! The music video for “Hakeem” parallels the energy of the track beautifully as well, and can be found on 2219 Lee’s YouTube channel. All three artists are definitely on the right path to elevating the genre of NY drill and hip hop in general, most definitely excited to see what else they have in the works for the remainder of the year!
