Combining her influences from highly profound DMV native Brent Faiyaz, New Jersey raised Joyce Sumaru is articulating a new sound for R&B. Staying parallel to the traditional sounds of R&B’s elegance and sentiments, her newest single “Luv Interlude” is a short glimpse to a phenomenon in the making.

At the age of 19, many would point out the polished sound from the New Jersey product. Her strong vocal presence and effortless harmonies have many comparisons to some of the greats in today’s R&B, but Joyce is on route for something bigger. On tracks including “Last”, a simple piano melody does the trick to bring significance to her potent vocals capturing maturity and beauty for a young individual. Moving forward to one of her most popular tracks “Trust Issues” a track sampling Giveon’s iconic “Like I Want You”, Sumaru slows down the tempo directing the attention to her outwardly harmonies.

Sumaru’s newest single “Luv Interlude” is yet another body of work, displaying the R&B talent’s adequate capabilities. Flowing over a gentle acoustic sampled R&B instrumental, Joyce delivers persuasive lyrics with her already significance vocal cadence. The song as a whole is a reminder that Joyce has talents that go beyond the numbers seen on Spotify and YouTube. Given the right direction and momentum, Sumaru could become on of the most notable R&B figures into today’s music scene and that’s a given fact.

Still relatively young and only continuing her development in artistry, Joyce Sumaru will be New Jersey’s next breakout star in the R&B space. Her strong vocal presence and a vision in her brand image are definitive signs that she is taking the right steps to reach her potential. It’s only time until the R&B community catches on, I give it less than a year till the industry catches onto Sumaru’s bright future.
