Klara Zangerl, Sweden's Hidden Talent from the North

One of the biggest upsurges in musical talents, Sweden has become the hub for prominent artists over the past decade. From Zara Larsson to Tove Lo, the female musicians from Scandinavia have only displayed star-like qualities, influencing the next generation of artists emerging from the country of yellow and blue. Considered my next pick as Sweden’s next artist on the rise, Stockholm’s 19 year - old Klara Zangerl is a name that will be familiarized in the R&B community for years to come. Showing many glimpses of the late Amy Winehouse but with a modernized sound pallet, Zangerl has what it takes to catch mainstream, using her vocals as a tool of sovereignty in addition to her polished songwriting skillset.

Zangerl’s sound is something very uncommon in today’s music but brings back nostalgia to influences of the early 2000s. Incorporating the use of contemporary instruments, Zangerl’s sound fits in the neo-soul and alternative pocket, where the flow and choice of sounds are standouts in comparison to other genres. Klara’s flow is a topic of its own discussion, where the 19 year - old has tenacity in her flow flaunting her confidence and charisma.

Debuting her first EP Mars 2022 in early June of this year, the 7 track project was an easy listen from start to finish, delivering an assortment of arrangements for R&B/Soul fans. A personal favorite by Zangerl is “How (What Are You Thinking Of)”, a track that’s free-flowing and only exhilarates soulful energy. In contrast, the self-titled track “Mars 2022” is a rollercoaster of emotions, taking listeners through a spiraling journey of narratives and lyricism, keeping afloat over soothing jazz-like instrumentation.

Delivering a project that is complete with expressive and spirited emotions, Zangerl is an artist that is polished and on the path to making a mark as Sweden’s next notable female talent. If embodying a phenomenal project was not impressive, Klara’s live performances of her project will blow you away, acting as another reason to become a fan of the 19-year-old.
