Is it too early to tell you one of my favorite breakout artists of 2021? Without a doubt- New York’s, Laura Elliott has already made an outstanding mark. She is gaining increasing attention in the indie world from her two most recent singles, “Grass Stains” and “Caroline, leaving listeners like me anticipating a major EP release. Phoebe Bridgers or Slow Pulp fans, you need to add her to your playlist.

In “Caroline” we’re drawn into Laura’s headspace by a simple yet captivating guitar that contrasts beautifully against her voice. Her lyrics become heartbreakingly vivid about the challenging experiences of growing up from “I’ve got lessons to learn and bridges to burn / And mistakes to make and more hearts to break” to battling, “I think too much and eat too little / My doctor says my bones are turning brittle.” Even with these journal-like confessions, her voice never trembles. Instead, as the guitar gradually builds along with the pulsing drums in the chorus, her poise and presence turn bigger and bolder in strength.

Laura Elliott has already proved through her newest singles to have a promising and refreshing sound in the world of indie rock.
