Murky Waters Is “Upside Down”

Los Angeles based artist Murky Waters releases his debut single “Upside Down” along with a breathtaking, supernatural music video. The record stands as a testimony about the hardships Murky has faced throughout his lifetime. Whether it be losing loved ones or his failing relationships, Waters is trying to find meaning in all the madness.

Waters had this to say about the record: “The whole song is really about loss. I grew up without a mother who passed when I was 5 and one of my good friends Shane passed of a drug overdose in 2019. The song is really just about me feeling alone and out of sorts, trying to understand the pain I feel.”

The young artist paints a vivid picture with his words. Lyrics “I got demons that I dance with/In my head, they’re so romantic” depict the internal battle that Waters’ is dealing with. Although, the first verse of the record is more personal to Waters’, the second verse speaks on a topic more relatable to the listeners. Waters talks about a past romantic relationship with a girl. Despite it having ended, Waters is unable to escape her,. Everywhere he looks he sees remnants of her and what could’ve been.

The music video directed by Jake Platter and produced by Skipped Graduation Prods. showcases Murky Waters in a dark, gloomy space. It brings the viewer into his mental space. Waters states, “The video is a visual representation of a contemplation. The first verse shows me literally murdering myself only to reveal I was alone the whole time. I feel like that’s a metaphor for feeling frustrated and trying to escape.”

I believe Murky Waters has had a jumpstart to success. The record and visual are both so refined for a debut release, leaving me yearning for more music. Until the release of his next record, be sure to check out “Upside Down”.
