Get Lost in the Funkadelic Sauce of Peach Tree Rascals and AG Club’s “Popeye”

In a fast-paced summer that’s quickly slipped out of our hands as the month of August quickly approaches, we, the people, are overdue for a moment to chill out and take a jammy, groovy breather. Peach Tree Rascals and AG Club serve up a funky solution to any summer blues in their latest release: “Popeye.”

The ensemble that is Peach Tree Rascals, made up of high school buddies members Dominic Pizano, Issac Pech, Tarrek Abdel-Khaliq, Joseph Barros, and Jorge Olazaba, command the song’s chorus, leaving AG Club’s Jody Fontaine to handle the verses. Fontaine owns the song like it’s entirely his own as he constructs an all-encompassing aura of IDGAF. “Fuck sending shots, bitch, I sent the torpedo,” he gloats, later claiming he’s “worth a couple M’s” among other bombastics lines.

The song is unbelievably groovy, providing saucey bass lines over tasteful, sparing drums. Both Peace Tree Rascals and Jody Fontaine’s vocals are seductive, wrapping you up in their honey-tinged voices that harmonize and rhyme like an ice cold glass of water after a sunny day at the beach. Your skull involuntarily bobs as your foot finds itself tapping the ground with feverishly-cool vibes. The funkadelic sound blends into an alt-pop-rap melody that serves as a bona fide accompaniment to any listening environment.

For fans of groups like Injury Reserve, or maybe even Brockhampton, this collaboration is certain to tickle your ears in all the right places. A sensational summer jam, Peach Tree Rascals and AG Club’s “Popeye” is a track you won’t want to miss.
