If you don’t already listen to Ruffin, what are you doing? The Philadelphia-based producer and songwriter is creating a sound that will absolutely boost your mood. His most recent album Prisma is an entire universe of vibrant colors and feelings. The 13 tracks leave the listener feeling refreshed and uplifted. Ruffin says that he takes heavy influence from Japanese City Pop while also incorporating elements of funk and contemporary pop. His groovy baselines and dreamy vocals are definitely a serene addition to your playlist.

The opening keys feel like you’re floating in the clouds, and Ruffin’s vocals accompanying are ideally warm. The chorus’ synths transport you into a beautifully adventurous video game. The last track on the album, “DYWI” is a significant contrast to the beginning. It heavily relies on the presence of a powerful baseline while upholding the themes of delicacy throughout the album. Overall, Prisma is incredibly liberating.

Immediately following the release of Prisma, Ruffin dropped his single “Brownie” with Cain Kerner. You can’t listen to this song without singing the chorus back all day long. The guitar riffs are sweet and steady. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a chill dance party.
