Space914 Lights His City Up With “What Happened”

Space914 released the music video for his record What Happened a few days ago, and it’s everything that the New York rap scene needed. Posted up outside of a White Plains corner store, the Qasquiat directed visual shows Space and his friends flexing and popping white bottles. The song reflects on Space’s newfound success and makes a comparison between his old life and his future. The song also features J Wavy, who delivers a smooth melodic verse. This is not the first release that Space tapped J Wavy for. About a year ago, the two connected for Distance, an ode to introversion. What Happened is a far cry from their prior collaboration, as the two paint the town red with their lyrical musings about their designer fits and designer weed.

Although the song is optimistic and celebratory, Space doesn’t betray his character. Rapping “I’m lowkey I don’t like when they know shit,” he is undoubtedly speaking the truth. Until only recently, Space was a fairly mysterious yet prominent figure in the New York scene. Despite doing major streaming numbers, he rarely revealed his face, and often represented himself with a mask. Over the past two months, Space surged out of the shadows with three new music videos, What Happened being the third. His videos for Trust No One and Never Had both covered songs that he’d previously released, but his latest video comes as support for a brand new song release. Needless to say, Space is gaining momentum and clearly ramping up his profile. Make sure to go watch and listen to What Happened here!
