Bow Down To Yahighness

Yahighness is the royal refreshment that New York needs. The Bronx artist dropped “Nowadayz” on Friday and it’s just as exciting a follow up as fans could have hoped for. The new song sees Yahighness evaluating different elements of his reality.. He considers the most impactful relationship he’s ever been in and still suggests a break up for fear of hurting his partner. He brings up a talented friend who went to jail and squandered his future. From discussing homies in prison, big egos, and drug addiction, Yahighness is hyper aware of his obstacles. Throughout the entire record he is identifying barriers  in his life and trying to resolve them by removing himself from the situation.

As the New York Drill scene is booming, it’s exciting to see an East Coast rapper who is doing something undeniably unique. Although he is not partaking in the New York Drill scene, Yahighness’ music resembles early melodic Chicago drill, made popular by Lil Durk. He is from the Bronx and his sound is a combination of his hometown and Chicago. In fact, a significant portion of his fanbase is from Chi town.

Although he’s been at it for awhile, Yahighness has shown immense growth over the past twelve months. He kicked off last March with the release of “Destiny,” a track that contemplates the inevitability of one’s fate. It’s a chilling track that conveys a sense of paranoia and despair. Yahighness then followed up with “Georgia,” an upbeat banger where he is noticeably more positive and celebratory. On this record his Chicago influence is apparent as he acknowledges his sonic similarity to Lil Durk, rapping “This bitch think I’m Durkio, she tryna go Bora Bora.” As he gears up for a big 2020, Yahighness is certainly an artist to look out for. Definitely check out the video for “Nowadayz”!
