Caspr: The Key to a Rock Renaissance

The Soundcloud era has brought us to new heights when it comes to genre-bending artists. These blends coming from the new generation, influenced by hip hop and rock, have opened up different sounds that many thought couldn’t be perfected. However, that's no longer the case. Caspr or formally known as ppgcasper is the next rockstar to make his way from the Soundcloud arena to the mainstream music scene. A New York native by way of Brooklyn, Caspr is no stranger to the underground scene. From Hyper-pop to R&B to alt rock, this guy can do it all. Coming up with his group, Surfgang, who are bursting out the seams with talent. Producers like Evilgiane and Tommytoohotty and artists like Pasto Flocco are a few notable acts coming out of the group. Surf Gang has been having a meteoric rise within the last few months, acquiring a Rolling Stone article speaking on their rise within the industry, along with their genre fusing member Caspr.

The evolution of Caspr is evident in the music that he has been releasing as of late. He has been flirting with his rise to fame through his work with producers who have attained legendary status. His most popular release, “Coke Nose” produced by Travis Barker and Omer Ferdi has 600k views for the music video on Youtube. The song includes all the elements to an alternative rock hit: the infectious guitar, casprs modulated vocals and of course the perfect rhythm from Travis Barker that will keep “Coke Nose” as a must in your daily rotation. The video directed by Richard Quintero and Khyeber Jones, knew Caspr from a young age, knowing each other from the skate parks in their hometown. This is the duo's first music video as they mainly work with skate videos, but you would not think so with how well produced and shot this video is. It is important to note how crazy these connections Caspr is making. Omer Ferdi produced “Stay” by Kid Laroi featuring Justin Bieber which has now spent six straight weeks at #1 on Billboard. Travis Barker has been gifting listeners amazing music for the last 30 years and has been making himself the most important and timely producer in the industry right now.

Caspr has been strutting his rebirth with multiple releases following “Coke Nose'' and the success it has been having. Songs like “Duct Tape Lips'' are further embedding the route Caspr is taking. The song is filled with layers of harmony over a calming guitar beat that Caspr floats on with ease, showing that he has found his genre and is more than comfortable in that position. There has been talk of many collaborations between Travis Barker and Caspr for some time now. “Play Pretend”, is the newest and most anticipated Caspr song yet. The accompanying video includes a black and white lens showing Caspr performing alongside Omer Ferdi and Travis Barker. It feels like we are being brought back to another era with the drums, vocals, guitar and visuals. This rebirth is being seen across the industry, but no one is doing it as well as Caspr.  Again, these links with icons like Travis Barker and Omer Ferdi is the indicator that Caspr is about to be the next hottest thing from the underground.

Caspr’s journey to stardom has been years in the making and now more than ever it feels like he is on the cusp of something much bigger. The name change is a symbol of rebirth for Caspr. The sound change, the video production elevation, and his overall aura has been evolving into something that we have not previously seen. He has been taking many of his old songs off of streaming services almost to let his fans know that there is a drastic shift coming in his trajectory as an artist.Check out some Caspr and ppgcasper songs below.
