DWLLRS is back with another heartfelt single. “You”  encompasses feelings of lovesickness in indicative laid-back, indie style. Bren Eissman and Joey Spurgeon embrace the sounds of their San Clemente, California roots combined with production styles of indie pop to create another easy-listening track full of nostalgia and flair.

The song meshes serene acoustic guitar and a muted beat that makes it more palatable than the typical disheartened heartache ballad, but that’s not to say that its lyrics shy away from these feelings:

“I don’t wanna be alone. I don’t wanna check my phone, cause to me, no one’s calling unless the call is from you.”

Eissman and Spurgeon are able to turn a song about love and longing into a catchy track and do so very well. To me, Eissman’s dreamy, impassioned voice is best suited for this kind of music, similar to the style of Postcard Boy, ROLE MODEL, and other indie-pop acts. On “You,” he oscillates between powerful and restrained vocals, wearing his heart on his sleeve but also maintaining a feeling of intimacy.

The product of a shared freshman college dorm room, DWLLRS embraces the sounds and feelings of youth and sunshine. They made their debut just a year ago with their single “And Then I’ll Be Alright,” and have been gaining a steady following ever since. Be sure to take a listen to their past tracks and stay in tune for more to come.
