Josef Lamercier Grace’s Us With Soulful Hip-Hop Track “Figure It Out”

As a fan of artists such as Masego, Smino, and Brent Faiyaz, I immediately took to Josef Lamercier’s music. Josef is a highly talented songwriter who has penned pieces for the likes of Tyler the Creator, Channel Tres, Lucky Daye, and more. Josef has a passion and talent for storytelling, and as a writer, it’s an essential part of the craft. Only now are we starting to hear Josef’s story, embarking on his journey as an artist we’re given “Figure It Out.”

The production of this track had my attention from the start, it’s dynamic, melodic, and gentle. I knew something ethereal was coming. The chorus is commanding, it's smooth and suave, Josef’s tone floats beautifully over the beat. The track also features artist Huey Briss, who delivers a classic hip-hop verse that elevates the track to a balanced blend of R&B and rap. Huey Briss' voice is clean and complemented nicely by the melodic essence of the production.

Josef Lamercier isn't holding back from opening up to his audience with “Figure It Out.” There’s something about his voice you can feel and hear the genuinity of these lyrics. Josef is at the beginning of a new phase in life. He’s figuring it out, letting go of the past, and understanding how to move forward from trauma. This song is deeply personal–we’re looking into Josef’s expression of what he’s going through. The authenticity of his artistry helps the listener relate and connect to his music.

I’ve only just discovered Josef Lamercier, and honestly think I’ve done so just in time. It’s evident we’re in the early stages of his solo career as an artist, and I look forward to following along all throughout this journey. There is an indescribable amount of potential within Josef’s music. Of course, I’m excited about the music and would also love to see visuals for his tracks as it would amplify the storytelling art.
