I’m excited to share with you one of my favorite finds this year, Baltimore-bred melodic hip-hop artist, Malik Moses. I would describe Malik as someone for fans of Smino, Masego, and Amine to name a few. Of course, Malik Moses has his own unique sound and style, he’s definitely in his own lane. These are a few artists who would make for exciting collaborations or neighbors in a playlist. As a fan of all three, I quickly began forming favorites in Malik’s catalog. Let's dive into his latest release, debut EP, “Show Me Something New” and discuss some top tracks.

Firstly I’ll establish that Malik is a storyteller, this collection of songs is intentional and personal. As his debut project, it was important to give listeners a look into who he is and what he’s been going through. He’s told us his story in a way that doesn’t feel too far removed, it’s easy enough to interpret the music within your own circumstances and relate. For Malik, he’s in a place of growth, but this comes with growing pains. He’s learning to elevate beyond his past and embrace a more mature lifestyle while remaining true to himself.

Getting into the music there is a wide variety of exciting elements at play here. The production across the whole tape is dynamic with influences from old-school hip-hop, jazz, and a variety of instruments incorporated all throughout. Without a doubt, my favorite track is “Wait Up 4 Me” the beat captivated me instantly. Malik’s flow here is infectious making you want to bounce and sing right along. Another recommendation would have to be “Show Me Something” featuring Dreamville’s Bas. This track showcases a more melodic side of Malik paired perfectly with Bas’ raw bars and authentic hip-hop energy.

This tape is a beautiful introduction to what Malik Moses has to offer and I’m anticipating some exciting things this year. Malik is a part of legendary engineer MixedByAli’s NoNameRecordings in partnership with his co-founder Dan Maynard. It is evident that Malik has the right people around him, which makes a vast difference in these developmental stages. With a solid team around him, the potential is limitless. Make sure to tap in with Malik Moses and stream “Show Me Something New” for immaculate vibes and good energy.
