Monae Makes Her Mighty Move

Monae speaks to us through a stamp in the shape of red lips, undoubtedly a symbol of someone who’s been chosen for a good time. She tells us her pleasure points over a bubbly reggae beat in her latest single “Lipstick Lover”, the first from her upcoming album The Age of Pleasure, which will be released in June.

Confessing her appetites for love bites, Monae sings us a sweet melody in a pop-lover’s rock anthem. “I like lipstick on my neck / Hands around my waist so you know what's comin' next” feed us an array of tempting mental images and steamy stimulations.

Monae takes it a step further in the refrain–with hints on how to deliver honeyed words, a little buzz for the beauty in the back, a tip for that titillating sensation and a suggestion for a proper cinematic viewing–inviting her lover to step on up and join this candied dream. She reminds her chosen lover that she’s willing to slow down to share some extra moments as they touch and intertwine.

In the chorus, Monae points out her adoration for the one she’s picked to offer her affection. The bass notes focus on this message as the percussion mirrors a playful ticking of a clock. An echoed brass section embodies the flair of her passion-led endeavors while the cooling background vocals emphasize the lip-biting excursions.

As the Kansas City star continues into the second verse, we are again notified of the favored placement of the strawberry-coloured stamp of love. Monae is not afraid to show her hunger for a clothing-less, romantic experience with her lover.

“Lipstick Lover” is an undeniable bop for those wanting a little something special to memorialize their hottest moments. Monae’s glossy vocals tease us into a string of questions surrounding ‘what happens next’, then keeps us guessing as her voice fades into a delicate whisper.

If this is any indication of the direction of the album mentioned, I will be taking my seat, Or multiple seats just in case.
