Just when I think I've heard it all, new artists pop up to show me that the music game is truly endless in the creativity that can come from it. In a world filled with 100,000 songs being uploaded a day I've taken on the algorithm to filter through the noise and deliver the people a true breakdown of who stands above it all. These five songs/artists below may shock and awe you, they may move you, they may even be a good soundtrack to smoking some weed. Whatever the case, just know that I fought to get you these, so don’t let my efforts go in vain and bump them all heavily.

Danny Schiller, Hasta La Dorada (EP)

Danny Schiller is one of those artists who brings a breath of fresh air to music with a unique style that blends old timey and new age influences, multiple genres, bilingual lyrics, and a cinematic charm that is instantly reminiscent of youth. His EP Hasta La Dorada perfectly captures this sort of retro yet contemporary charm. While standouts like “Bend & Break,” “For Good,” and “White Water” are my go-to tracks, overall, the EP is best played front to back to appreciate the full depth of Schiller’s artistic intent and vision. Musically, the project weaves elements of flamenco, bolero, bossa nova, bachata, cohesively into a R&B and Indie Pop foundation that is bursting with emotion. The journey he takes you on during Hasta La Dorada is winding, with an assortment of feelings but well worth it as an experience, not to mention at the end of it you will likely have found your new favorite artist.

Asha Imuno feat. Amaria, “Perfect Pace”

Asha Imuno continues to build upon momentum from the past year. The quality of his work is truly on another level compared to many of the other artists out there when it comes to the full package of vibe, clever lyrical content, catchy melodies, incredible production and sound song arrangement. All the ingredients are there, so when you add in a singer like Amaria, another can’t-miss artist right now who lends hauntingly beautiful harmonies that bring another dimension, you get ‘Perfect Pace’, one of the best records of the year.

Kweku Collins, “A Tale of the Twin Flame”

Kweku Collins is back with his first non-feature verse release in four years!! That sentence feels so good to write. Kweku is one of the most individual and unique artists in the world, with an undeniable groove and youthful sound that makes the listener feel like they’re living life in the end credits of an indie film. With his project just being released on November 4th, getting an appetizer into the new sound has done exactly what was intended: gotten me absolutely hyped for the full project, which is being released in two installments, with the second half coming out in early 2023. “A Tale of the Twin Flame” is a smooth head knocker that you should throw on in the car but just make sure not to zone out too hard and miss that light.

Jordan Ward Ft Joony, “IDC”

A lowkey piano melody and guitar strum with a smooth breakbeat set the backdrop for Jordan Ward and Joony’s “IDC,” a melancholy song about losing the feelings you felt and moving towards indifference regarding someone and what they do. At just under 2 minutes, you’re better off looping the song because you will be so caught up in the moment you won’t even realize it has ended and moved on to some other-probably inferior-track. The repeat value is undeniable, with Jordan’s fresh and fun delivery it’s a song that both sounds classic and fresh all at the same time.

Freddie Gibbs feat. DJ Paul, “PYS”

Freddie Gibbs' whole ‘Soul Sold Separately’ Album is a contender for project of the year. One of the standout tracks, “PYS” with DJ Paul brings that grimy Memphis sound to Freddie’s signature fiery midwest chopper flow. Three 6 Mafia legend DJ Paul jumps in with a hazy but powerful verse that is perfect for bumping in the car, the trap, or any other place you like to listen to Bass heavy monster jams. Seriously go give this bass the car test and float away.
