Gidi kept me on my toes with this one. The Baltimore raised, Los Angeles based singer, songwriter, and producer recently released another incredibly unique single. “BODYCRY” was co-produced by Jabari Manwa (@Jabarimanwa) with additional help from Liam Barr Jones (@Liam.brr) and Thorington (@thoringtonnnn), and gives us an idea of what to expect from the up and coming artist moving forward.

Opening with hypnotic keys and a groovy bassline, “BODYCRY” leads with Gidi’s pitched up vocals and an incredibly easy hook to sing along to. At first listen I found it reminiscent of early BROCKHAMPTON songs. Gidi himself boasts a feature from Merlyn Wood, the former BROCKHAMPTON member on his track “CHAINS”, which was released last October - and the chemistry was definitely there between the two.

The well executed alternating pitches build a real mystique, keeping the listener in anticipation of the next change all throughout the track. The switches between R&B style singing and actual rap verses were super well done. Gidi raps with intense charisma and the final verse feels like you’ve reached a true climax within the track after all those twists and turns.

Arguably Gidi’s most experimental track to date, “BODYCRY” really scratched an itch I didn’t know was there. It’s cruising music, it’s raging music, and at it’s core, it’s refreshing - and has me incredibly optimistic about what Gidi has up his sleeves.
