I’m a sucker for west coast Hip-hop and fortunately got the chance to chat with Big Glizzy AKA BG about Before Fame, the latest release by the Long Beach native and emerging artist. BG began his musical journey collabing with friends and shooting to build the strongest following he could in his hometown,- ultimately aiming to go beyond the local scene and leave his mark in the industry.

Before Fame embodies the new West Coast flow. BG pays homage to the sound of his city throughout the project with standout tracks like the intro, “Joint,” and the own favorite on the record, “9 Lives.” BG knows how to dance around the beat, putting his unique spin on the flow that we’ve come to know and love coming from the West.

When asked about his writing process, BG responded: “I don’t really focus on bars. I like to rap about my life - cause I feel like if you rap about your life you can reach out to others that relate to your life. It’s just better if you tell a story - and that’s how you gain fans.”

The collaborate nature of his creative process shows that Big Glizzy makes a point to uplift the culture. Recognizing the power of rising through the local scene first, BG wants to take his prowess from state to state. One of BG's goals is to use any gained success as a platform to help local artists grow.

“I want to make myself as big as I can be, take artists under me and make this shit bigger than it’s ever been. We’ve come together as friends to make this shit work,” he said.

Spontaneity and efficiency were key elements to making Before Fame happen. BG boasted most songs took 30 minutes to complete. He added that, if you’re not contributing to the session there’s no need for you to be there.

Before Fame is just one of many releases we’re looking forward to from Big Glizzy. As BG expands his reach beyond his hometown, opening for larger acts week by week, this project will serve as a stepping stone to what’s to come.
