Jenevieve is in A Lane of Her Own
The recent R&B scene has been pretty quiet with many songs and artists producing the same sound and style. Through all these commonalities, one artist has really stood apart from the crowd, adding a modern twist to an already known sound.
Jenevieve, based out of Miami, is a hybrid in both R&B and pop genres. Her voice brings a special and original sound to the Soulful R&B community, with many of her songs including prominent pianos and drums that provide that reminiscent 90’s vibe. Her breakout single, also being my favourite song of her’s titled “Baby Powder” is a great example of how she plays around with a retro sounding beat, but is able to add a refreshing and modern twist. Jenevive’s unique and upbeat style separates her from any competition and allows her to be in a lane of her own.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing Jenevieve perform, opening up for Giveon’s “Give or Take” tour. Her performance was brought with a very warm welcome as she took the stage for the third night in a row for a sold out Toronto crowd. Jenevieve has great stage presence and an amazing ability to control the crowd. She displayed her angelic voice and brought the dreamy vibes to the Toronto crowd as she performed a variety of songs off of her debut album “Division” and latest EP “Rendezvous”. She truly has that superstar factor that cannot be taught and it is amazing to see how great she sounds live.
With a style and lane of her own, it is exciting to see where Jenevieve can take her sound. Opening for an artist such as Giveon is already an incredible achievement in the early stages of her career. I hope to see the release of new music from Jenevieve in the near future, along with a potential tour so everybody can have the chance to experience her performances live!
