Phoenix native Tullis’ most recent release “WHIPLASH” has a modern trap sound fit for a music festival-type rage. As one of Arizona’s most promising artists on the underground scene, he’s had some singles make a splash already with “distance” reaching over one million streams on Spotify. This has been a defining year for him in music with a consistent course of singles solidifying his talents and proving he’s refined a unique vibe and style fit for his persona.

Jumping into “WHIPLASH,” let's talk production. The vibe of this track is eerie, dark, and spacey, with daunting sounds and electronically warped voice elements it feels like something from another dimension. Paired with his flow he’s paced himself to align with the track and manipulated his tone to meld everything sonically. I can see this track going crazy at a live show, with the speakers blaring and Tullis bringing the energy to another level.

Lyrically, Tullis is speaking on his current lifestyle and what’s going on for him right now, he’s gaining traction and motion in the industry, starting to level up. In comparison to where he once was, he’s accomplished major milestones. This growth often evokes the revelation of fake love from friends, women, and family alike. Every artist has a different experience with this and I believe Tullis is letting us get a glimpse at his. Dealing with that can also bring your own mentality down which he conveys in the closing verse.

Over the course of his journey as an artist, Tullis has had a serious work ethic since 2020, and his releases prove to be consistent. Of course, everyone grows into what’s defined as their lane, and I believe 2022 revealed a hyper-focus on the quality of the tracks and defining his true sound. This isn’t to say Tullis sticks to one vibe, he definitely has the versatility necessary to dabble in different genres, but there's a certain uniforming quality of all his recent work that stands out to me.
