An absolute blast from the past, this release from South Korean LØREN perfectly captures and modernizes a familiar sound. Future nostalgia at its finest.

LØREN is an impressive force, even after only three songs to his name. He got started by playing the drums in school, went to Japan for college, only to drop out in his second year to pursue music as a career. Having gone to an international school, his English is impressive, and it shows in his singing.

With a tonality somewhere between The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, LØREN’s voice has the familiar monotonic laid-back shout feel of many great punk anthems.

His strengths extend beyond his vocal style – LØREN wrote, produced, and played guitar & drums on “All My Friends Are Turning Blue”. Breaking out as a solo artist is notoriously difficult in the intensely group-oriented music culture of South Korea, and his breakout success attests to his ability.

The track’s tight guitar and drum playing create a solid groove for LØREN’s vocals to ride on. Every chorus and return to verse arrives perfectly on time, keeping the track fresh, even with an intentionally monochromatic sound palette.

LØREN’s releases are worthy to be on your radar, and I’m certain the coming years will see him work his way into further success.
